ASD Middle School Seismic Bracing Project
Our work centered on three critical areas: securing an expansion tank and its piping, bracing a large boiler stack, and anchoring water heaters. Each task demanded a precise and robust solution to ensure stability during lateral and vertical movements caused by seismic activity.
Expansion Tank and Pipe Bracing – We secured a large expansion tank and HVAC piping by installing high-strength seismic cables. These cables absorb energy during earthquakes to prevent the tank from shifting or toppling. By ensuring the assembly remains intact, we protect the system from failure and prevent potential water damage.
Boiler Stack Seismic Restraint – The tall, heavy boiler stack required a specialized stability solution. We installed a seismic cable bracing system to provide multi-directional support, anchoring the stack directly to the building’s structure. This prevents dangerous swaying or collapse during an earthquake, securing a critical heating component and protecting the overall facility.
Water Heater Wall Anchorage – Our team also seismically braced three large water heaters by attaching them to an adjacent structural wall with robust seismic anchors. This support prevents the heaters from tipping over and rupturing gas or water lines, a simple but essential part of the school’s overall seismic plan.
